Taking a trip to Mexico is always a fun idea, but if you want to get away from the party scene and really enjoy a quiet beach – I have the BEST recommendation. Fly into Cancun, hop on the 25 minute ferry to Isla Mujeres “Woman’s Island,” and catch a cab to a peaceful stay. This quiet stay on the very south side of Isla Mujeres is called Maria’s Kan Kin, and I will tell you exactly why it is the best place to stay.
Why Stay at Maria’s Kan Kin?
Maria’s Kan Kin is one of my top favorite places I’ve stayed because it is so quiet and lovely. My biggest rave about it is the access to the beach. The white sand beach is luxury. There are chairs and plenty of seating, but the craziest thing, when we stayed no one else was there! We had the ENTIRE place to ourselves, including this private beach. Travelers can pay to access this beach, so maybe some days it can be busier, but we never experienced that.
Not only do you get access to the white sand beach, but also there is an infinity pool! You also can walk out on the boardwalk that is on the right of this photo.
What are the rooms like?
If you only stay in fancy stays, this place is maybe not for you. I love an authentic experience so luxury is not necessary for me. The rooms are not high end at all, they are very basic, but plenty of space. We had a queen bed, shower, fridge, AC, table, and they provide a bottle of water per person per day. The patio of our place had a hammock that I lounged in often. The wifi can be iffy, but mostly worked.

Exploring around Maria’s Kan Kin
Walking up the road from Maria’s Kan Kin you’ll find a few other restaurants, and can even walk all the way to Punta Sur which is a beautiful sunrise location. We walked to a couple stores from here too, but it is a bit of a walk to the busier part of the Island.
Maria’s Kan Kin is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the ferry and it cost $200 MXN (roughly $10 USD.) It also cost $200 MXN every time we taxi’d back to this area where all the shops and restaurants are. You really don’t have to go to the main area if you don’t want though, because Maria’s serves lunch and partners with a bigger hotel nearby where you get free breakfast, and can enjoy dinner.
This video showcases the beach and stunning blue water!! You can snorkle right off the docks here so don’t forget your masks! We saw crabs, fish and other wildlife!
The last reason why you absolutely should choose Maria’s Kan Kin is because the manager Lily is a very sweet woman who wants you to have the BEST vacation ever. We even left something very important in the room after leaving and Lily made sure to coordinate getting it back to us. She was lovely as ever and made us feel so special.
